Department of Psychology
Applicants: Undergraduates
Psychology is the scientific study of all forms of behaviour. Psychologists are interested in how and why humans (and other species) behave in the ways they do and in investigating the processes behind these behaviours - from those that function at the level of single cells to those operating on society as a whole.
Psychology provides a link between subjects as diverse as Biology, Philosophy and Sociology and can provide insights into many other academic subjects valued within the modern workplace, such as Computing Science, Marketing, Management Science, Economics and Human Resource Management. At Stirling, you can combine Psychology with all of these subjects and many more.

Standing at the interface between the biological and social sciences and the humanities, psychology has common ground with subjects like neuropsychology, zoology, computing, sociology and philosophy.
In Stirling, a balance is maintained between these different aspects of the subject. Specialisation occurs at the postgraduate level: the undergraduate programmes aim to provide a sound foundation for further study, or for development of a career as a professional psychologist, in education, social or health services, or in industry.
International students can study our Undergraduate Certificate if they do not possess the necessary entrance requirements to be admitted directly to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.
The Psychology Department at Stirling is renowned for the quality of its research, and many of the staff are known worldwide. Many of the courses involve staff teaching about their own research, and Single Honours students are encouraged to pursue research in their final year within an area of their own choosing, in an experimental or theoretical project under staff supervision.
